Angel's Mess joins the release register
The release register now runs to three studio albums. Angel's Mess was released on 13 March 2026 through Drunk on Power and reached number 83 on the ARIA albums chart. It is the first WAAX album made after the project reformed around Maz DeVita in late 2023, and the first not to appear on Dew Process.
Two changes arrive together, which is what makes the entry worth a note rather than a line. Dew Process released both Big Grief in 2019 and At Least I'm Free in 2022, which covers the entire period in which WAAX operated as a fixed five-piece. A change of label is often the clearest external marker that a project has changed shape, and in this case it lines up almost exactly with the change in line-up: the hiatus announced in April 2023, the farewell shows at The Triffid in Brisbane that June, and the return in November of the same year with DeVita as the only continuing member.
What the chart line means, and what it does not
Recorded plainly: Big Grief peaked at 11, At Least I'm Free at 20, Angel's Mess at 83. The register carries chart placings because they are among the few facts about a release that can be checked against an independent record years later. They fix a date, they confirm a release actually shipped in the territory, and they do not depend on anyone's memory.
They are not a ranking of the records, and it would be a misreading of this register to treat them as one. A peak position measures a week of sales and streams against everything else released into the same week, on a chart whose methodology has changed repeatedly across the seven years these three albums span. It also measures the size of the machine behind a release, and the machine behind the third album is by design a smaller one. The number is recorded because it is verifiable, in the same way the catalogue format and the label are recorded, and for no stronger reason than that.
The singles that led in
Three singles preceded the album and are now in the register alongside it: "Ur A Rat" and "Hands", both from 2025, and "Uh Oh (Bardcore Girls)" from 2026. That brings the singles count to fourteen across the whole span, from "Wisdom Teeth" in 2014 onward.
The gap between "Read Receipts" in 2022 and "Ur A Rat" in 2025 is the longest in the discography, and it is the hiatus. Registers like this one tend to make such gaps visible in a way that a biography does not: a list of dated releases shows the shape of a career's interruptions without anyone having to characterise them.
How the entry is recorded
The album carries a full release date because the label and the chart both fix one. It carries a format list, a label, a peak position and an index number. It does not carry a tracklist reproduction, cover artwork or lyrics, because those remain the copyright of their holders. Where the register is thinner is on personnel. The albums released between 2019 and 2022 have a settled line-up behind them that can be stated with confidence. The 2026 album was made under a different arrangement, with a rotating group of touring musicians rather than a fixed band, and this index does not yet record who played what on it. That gap is left open rather than guessed at, and it is the kind of thing the contact page exists to close.
